Ways Owning a Dog Will Improve Your Health

image

Have you thought about owning a dog, but have been on the fence? It might help you to learn how owning a dog can improve your health.

Dog owners tend to exercise more than those who don’t own dogs. Your dog will beg you for walks, which will help you get outside more. The fact that your dog will love the walks so much will help you look forward to this form of exercise, too. On days when you wouldn’t have exercised, you’ll go out of obligation, which will help you meet your fitness goals. Consider other ways to exercise with your dog. Find out if your dog likes to swim, or teach him how to play fetch. All of these outside activities with your dog will get you moving, and that’s the key to healthy living.

Owning a dog will help your blood pressure. Studies show that petting a dog actually lowers your blood pressure. When your dog asks for a belly scratch, take the time to brush or pet him all over, helping both you and him to be happier and healthier.

Dog ownership makes it easier to meet people. Your little canine buddy will open you up for conversations even in impersonal situations and cities. Take your dog to a doggie park and meet other dog owners, or bring your dog with you when you shop at the pet store, and meet other dog owners there. Social connections are important for emotional health.

It’s been determined that dog ownership helps with emotional strength and resilience. Studies have shown that the unconditional love and enthusiasm of a dog improves emotional health. Dog owners live longer than those who don’t own pets at all. If you find yourself struggling with negative emotions, a dog may be the answer.

One Week Do-It-Yourself Detox Program

You want to detox, but you don’t want to buy an over-the-counter detox or cleanse kit. This natural detox plan is easy and gradual, making it easy to stick to. It’s best to follow this detox plan over the course of a week.

On Monday and Tuesday, you’ll want to begin your cleanse by eliminating sugar and fats from your meal plan. You’ll also need to abstain from alcohol for the next seven days. Eliminate or reduce caffeine use, too.

On Wednesday and Thursday you’ll take your detox plan up a notch by going vegan, meaning no more meats, dairy, or processed foods for the rest of the week. Try to drink at least 50% more water than you usually do.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – Commit to a raw fruit and vegetable (oganic) diet for the last three days of the detox plan.

Your hardcore, three-day detox plan will look like the following: Drink plenty of the following: senna and fasting support teas, Master Cleanse lemon-water (with pure maple syrup and a bit of cayenne), and filtered water.

To avoid headaches or breaking the fast, east a piece of fruit every two hours or so. You’ll want to keep portions small, but alternate between raw fruit and raw vegetables. Scrub all produce to eliminate pesticides.

Encourage elimination. If you feel the urge to go, act on it, allowing your body to rid itself of excess waste as often as needed.

Get plenty of sleep. Take time for regular sleep and naps.

A massage will further enhance your detox experience. Massage promotes the excretion of waste products. For best results, get a full-body, hour-long, deep-muscle or Swedish treatment. Mention the fact that you are detoxing, and drink water before and after the massage.

Exercise gently. You may want to walk, hike, or practice yoga, all of which will work up a cleansing sweat.

Cleanse your biggest organ, your skin. Shower or bath, using all natural products, and follow up with a body brush. Use the body brush on dry skin, exfoliating and stimulating your pores to release even more toxins.

Once your week of detoxing is over, you’ll need to return to your regular ways with caution. You may feel inspired to eliminate some of the habits you now realize were hurting you.

Exploring Natural Laxatives

Discussing constipation is not a fun thing to do, but it is even less fun to deal with, and if you happen to be dealing with constipation yourself (or if you have dealt with it before and want to know what to do better should it happen again), it is better to know how to deal with it naturally instead of picking up some over-the-counter laxatives that are otherwise not great for your body!

The great thing about natural laxatives is that you can actually encourage regular bowel movements in your everyday life by using them, which means that you can avoid constipation by adhering to the same general tips that will allow you to cure constipation should it occur.

Fluids comprise many of the best ways to get natural laxatives into your body; the best way of all to prevent constipation and to chase away constipation is to stay hydrated, drinking at least a gallon of water per day, but other things to try (should you find yourself constipated) are prune juice, carrot juice, and coffee, all of which should help to get your bowels going.

Explore the Giant Book of Natural Remedies!

You probably already know that fiber is a good thing to get into your body, but what you might not have realized is that – even beyond the foods you are eating – eating on a regular schedule will help you to enjoy regular bowel movements, whereas an unpredictable eating schedule will give you unpredictable bowel movements.

Watermelon, honey, and molasses are three additional foods that work well as natural laxatives; by adding any of these to your diet, you will help to prevent constipation, and by including these in your diet when you are constipated, you will help to clear up the problem.

You should be aware that constipation is not an illness in and of itself, but is actually an indication of an illness (or of a problem in your digestive system); if you have tried these steps and they have not helped to clear up the problem, consider visiting a doctor to find out what you can do differently!

Consider Natural Sweeteners over Refined Sugar

People may have any number of reasons to want to drop the refined white sugar from their diets. Some people want something with a lower glycemic index while others just want to get back to nature with their diet. If you have decided to make a change to a natural sweetener, no matter what the reason is, you may be wondering what your options are.

One great natural sweetener is blue agave.  This is the same plant that is used to make tequila When compared to sugar in sweetness, blue agave is considerably sweeter. It takes 1/4 of the amount of agave to sweeten to the same level of sugar. Agave syrup is typically organically produced. The agave syrups flavor is somewhat similar to honey mixed with vanilla.  The flavor is quite unique specifically to agave. You will most likely have to get used to the flavor.

Sweet sorghum syrup is referred to molasses in some parts of the country even though it is not molasses. Sorghum syrup comes from pressing the stems of sorghum plants and boiling off much of the water similar to maple syrup. It is easy to find organic sorghum syrup in health food stores.  Sorghum can be grown without herbicides and insecticides. Nutritionally sorghum is fairly high in iron. Sorghum syrup has a flavor similar to molasses but not quite as strong.

Maple syrup is gathered from sugar maples during the late winter early springtime of the year. The sap from the tree is collected and then boiled down to create syrup. Maple syrup contains high levels of manganese.  It also contains zinc and calcium. These are all elements our body needs to function correctly. Maple syrup is great when used in baking and can also be used to sweeten drinks.

The three sweeteners listed here are only the beginning of your options. Molasses and honey are also two good options along with less common syrup such as rice syrup. You have many options to choose from when it comes to less processed natural sweetners.

How To Replace Ice Cream With A Healthier Option

Everyone knows that ice cream is a wonderful treat to enjoy at the end of dinner; at the same time, however, it is not exactly healthy! Ice cream is not a bad treat to have every once in a while, especially if you are a real ice cream lover. But you should also learn what some of the great alternatives to ice cream are so that you can cut ice cream out of your nightly routine!

Most people who crave ice cream start to find (as they try to cut ice cream out of the routine) that what they really crave is something cold and either creamy or juicy. Of course, it is also nice if this “something cold and creamy/juicy” that you try to use as a replacement is also sweet! But if you want to start out trying to replace ice cream with the opposite extreme, you can try something such as watermelon or pineapple. These fruits are both cold and juicy, and they both have an element of sweetness; furthermore, of course, they are also both very healthy!

Many people also find that yogurt is a satisfactory after-dinner replacement for ice cream on most nights. When you shop for yogurt, however, you should buy yogurt that is organic and that does not contain a lot of sugar; otherwise, you may as well be eating ice cream!

Another treat that many people find to be enjoyable is popsicles – and if you make your own popsicles, they can actually be healthy! Take some ice cube trays and freeze your favorite juice – using toothpicks instead of popsicle sticks.

And finally, some people find that they enjoy a nice cup of after-dinner coffee instead of after-dinner ice cream – replacing their favorite cold, creamy treat with something hot and creamy! If you are a coffee fan (and if it will not keep you up all throughout the night!), this can be a great way to go.

Of course, you do not need to cut ice cream out of your diet entirely; but you should at least make sure that you are not eating it every single night!

Making A Natural Energy Smoothie

While coffee and energy drinks help a lot of people to make their way through the day, a much healthier way to help yourself stay awake during the day is to consume foods that give you natural energy – and one of the best ways to get foods that give you natural energy is to add these foods to a smoothie. By starting your morning with a natural energy smoothie, you will not only be able to wake up and stay awake throughout the day, but you will be able to do so in a healthy manner with a drink that tastes delicious and is easy to make.

The first thing for you to consider, when it comes to natural energy smoothies, is the base (that is, the liquid) that you will use in the drink; soy milk is a great way to get you the energy that you need, but if you elect to go with juice instead, make sure that the juice is natural and fresh, as this will give you your best advantage on the day.

It will be vital for your smoothie to include some fresh fruits and berries; bananas and strawberries are tasty and easy to find, but you should also consider using figs and/or raisins, blueberries, and raspberries – and in addition to these fruits and berries, you should add honey, as this will sweeten the smoothie while also providing you with even more natural energy.

Drink your way to health deliciously with Sensational Smoothies!

Adding protein to your smoothie is not only a great way to get the protein that your body needs, but it is also an additional way to get more energy into your body; you can add protein with protein powder, peanut butter, or yogurt – but if you choose to go with yogurt, make sure you are using plain, organic yogurt, rather than yogurt that is essentially nothing more than a dessert!

When you get into the habit of starting your morning with the help of a natural energy smoothie, you will be able to enjoy not only the health benefits of this smoothie, but also the natural energy that it pumps into your body.

Understanding The Three Simple Steps For Having Healthy Teeth

It can seem like an inconvenience at times to take the care of your teeth that you should, but it is an even bigger inconvenience to have to deal with the consequences – later in life – of having not taken good care of your teeth right now! Even though it can take a lot of practice and “remembering” in order to get into the habit of taking good care of your teeth, it will be worth it in the long run, when you still have the same, healthy teeth you have had all your life – and when they still look great and give you no pain or problems!

Of course, brushing is the most important part of keeping your teeth healthy, but while most people remember to brush twice per day, they fail to realize that this is actually not doing them quite as much good as they might imagine. Even though you brush twice per day, you are probably eating three or four times per day – and every time you eat and do not brush your teeth afterward, that food is sitting on your teeth; you should get into the habit of keeping travel toothpaste and a travel toothbrush with you, and brushing after every meal!

Flossing is also a big part of keeping your teeth healthy, as that will keep food from sitting between your teeth and in your gums; by flossing every night, you can prevent gum disease from occurring, and can also keep your teeth healthier.

Finally, you can keep your mouth healthy by using mouthwash; you should use mouthwash every night, as this will help your breath smell good, will remove plaque, and will also just make your mouth feel good!

When you get into the habit of brushing after every meal, flossing at night, and using mouthwash at night, you will be able to keep your teeth healthy for a long time to come - enabling your mouth to keep its natural teeth, saving you money and protecting you from pain.

Establishing Your Own Home Yoga Practice

So you want to start a home yoga practice, but you aren’t sure how. Home yoga practices have many advantages including solitude, privacy, and the freedom to tailor your practice to your specific needs.

For best results, you’ll want to buy some of the basic equipment. You should purchase a good yoga mat, a block, and a yoga instruction manual (book or DVD is fine) so you’ll have several yoga asana (poses) onhand for referral. You’d probably appreciate a set of yoga clothes too; any form fitting but stretchy outfit will do.

Since this is your practice, you get to select the specific asana for your routine. If you like to follow an instructor, you’ll want to rent or buy DVDs or books and find a routine that you enjoy. A traditional routine might follow the twenty-six asana laid out in the Ashtanga sequence, which you can find in a traditional yoga book or Ashtanga DVD. Or you can create your own unique routine, made up entirely of your own poses.

Make sure you begin your practice with a session of meditation in a lotus position, grounding yourself in your intention. Then assume a stretching series of poses, such as sun salutations. After some stretching, you can move through a series of athletically challenging poses, resting when needed. End in corpse pose; while there, allow yourself to relax completely, releasing any negativity.

You’ll want to learn pranayama, or breathing exercises, so that you learn how to breathe through the poses. You may find it powerful to add a form of spritual meditation into your routine such as metta meditation (loving kindness) or vipassana meditation (accepting physical sensations and emotions as they come). As you develop and expand your home practice, you will find yoga brings a sense of calm and peace to your life.

Can Bracelets And Necklaces Really Help You Have Better Balance And Energy?

As people look for any way to get “an edge” – whether in work, in sports, or just in general – plenty of different “miracle products” emerge that sound absurd on the surface, but that cause people to silently say, “Yeah, but what if it actually works?” Bracelets and necklaces that are purported to increase the energy and balance the wearer has in their body, using some sort of scientific mastery to achieve this effect, is one such product that has emerged over recent years; and of course (absurd though this product may sound), people naturally want to know whether this product really does work.

The product you are most likely to see being sold by “salesmen” (and being pitched in infomercials) is the Power Balance Bracelet, which supposedly works due to the crafy implementation of holograms and ions. Many people are thrilled when they have a “test” performed on them with this bracelet on, as the salesman will try to cause the prospective buyer to lose their balance, first without the bracelet on and then with the bracelet on; despite the impressive sales pitch, there is no scientific backing to say that this product works, and most have found that it does not!

On the other hand, there is also the Star Necklace by Phiten, which you may have seen being worn by such athletes as Josh Beckett, Matt Hasselbeck, Joba Chamberlin, and most of the members of the Rangers team that reached the 2010 World Series. This product has titanium in the necklace, and while some scientists claim that such a small amount of titanium would be incapable of having an effect on the body, scientific evidence does suggest that titanium can have positive effects on the body, and lots of people who wear these necklaces claim that they have worked for them.

While there is no definitive proof that the Phiten Star Necklace and the Phiten Star Bracelet actually work, there is also no definitive proof that they do not work; and with so many people wearing these products and feeling the intended effects, they are definitely worth purchasing!

How To Replace Butter In Your Diet

Most people know good and well that they should not keep putting butter in their bodies, but most people are also unable to stop nonetheless! Oftentimes, butter makes things taste a lot better, and those who have grown up used to butter have a hard time making the switch. After all, margarine might try to be a comparable butter substitute, but it fails for many people in this aim; so what is a butter lover to do? Quite frankly, getting away from butter is not an easy task; if you are determined to do so, however, here are a few simple things you can try for replacing butter in your diet.

Lots of people use butter when cooking on the stove, no matter if they are making eggs, hashed browns, or a grilled cheese sandwich. You can eat much healthier, however – and still make food that tastes great – if you start using olive oil instead of butter when you cook on the stove. The taste of food that has been cooked in olive oil is different from the taste of food that has been cooked in butter, but many people actually find that they prefer the taste of food cooked in oil once they get used to it!

Another area where people have a hard time switching away from butter is on toasted breads – including bagels and English muffins. You have probably tried toast before with butter and jam; instead of putting the butter on, try it with just the jam! Bagels and English muffins are also great with jam, and they are also good with a thin layer of peanut butter.

And if you enjoy using butter as a dip – for bread or for seafood – try using oil with spices instead. With this, you will get a rich, full flavor very similar to the flavor of butter, and you will not be clogging your arteries in the process!

In the end, it comes down to making a decision to stay away from butter if you truly want to stay away. But as it can be difficult at first, these tips can help you ease away from butter into healthier alternatives.
